Charity leaders forgo or donate personal income as a way to save their organizations money

When Douglas F. Kridler, chief executive officer of the Columbus Foundation, helped prepare his organization's 2009 budget last year, he recommended cutting his own $280,500 salary by 10 percent to help the organization weather the declining economy.
