I think that calling anyone who donates substantial funds to a foundation that they control shouldn't be called a philanthropist, especially Geore Soros. His Open Society Foundation is more about buying and/or controlling countries, elections, etc. than helping out humanity.
Even so, my comment also goes for others on the list that donate to foundations that they control. That's more of a tax writeoff in my estimation.

It is amazing how many of the donors are in the west and particularly in Southern California.
