- The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, in Chicago, announced it will hold a competition to give away $2-million for technology-related ideas. Part of the money will be awarded in sums of $100,000 to $250,000, to support creative online-education efforts. The rest will provide awards of $30,000 to $75,000 to support projects that help ideas circulate online.
