Giving Declines at Hospitals
Charitable contributions to nonprofit hospitals and health-care groups rose 2.9 percent, to $8.6-billion, last year, according to a new study by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.
That increase was roughly half the rate of growth reported in 2007. This year may be worse: Most groups in the study ended their fiscal years before the last quarter of 2008, but those that closed their books at the end of December reported a 0.2-percent drop in giving.
