GuideStar’s Leader Plans to Step Down

The chief executive of GuideStar, a nonprofit that puts online a wealth of data about charities, will step down from his post later this year, the organization announced today.

Bob Ottenhoff, who has led GuideStar for a decade, will leave once his successor is in place. The organization is now conducting a search for a new leader.

Mr. Ottenhoff oversaw GuideStar’s acquisition last year of two nonprofit organizations, Philanthropedia and Social Actions.

GuideStar’s Web site has grown in popularity in the past few years, and some 10 million people are expected to use the site this year, in part to search the informational tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service that GuideStar makes accessible to the public.

Mr. Ottenhoff says he has not decided what to do next, but he said it’s time for the organization to find someone “to take it to the next level.”

Before he joined GuideStar, Mr. Ottenhoff was chief operating officer of the Public Broadcasting Service and head of VT Lynx, a telecommunications company.
