Friday, June 11, 2010, at noon U.S. Eastern time

As Giving USA, the annual report of American donations compiled by researchers at Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University Center, is released this week, what do fund raisers need to know? How has the recession affected charities nationwide, and what are nonprofit organizations doing to strengthen contributions this year?

Please join us on Friday, June 11, at noon U.S. Eastern time for a live online discussion and pose your questions directly to the scholar who oversaw the Giving USA research and other experts.

The Guests:

Dan Busby is president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. Previously he served as controller of the University of Kansas Medical Center and as chief financial officer of the Wesleyan Church Corporation, in Indianapolis.

John Havens is a top researcher at the Center on Wealth and Philanthropy at Boston College, where he spends most of his time studying the transfer of wealth.

Patrick Rooney is executive director and director of research at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Mr. Rooney is an economics professor who previously served as both special assistant to the Indiana University vice president for long-range planning and chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Individual Giving to Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Charities Increased by 2.4 Percent in 2009

Federal Public Servants give more than $280 Million Dollars to Charity

The world's largest workplace giving campaign, the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) showed an increase of $2.4% for a total donated or pledged of $282,620,150 for 2009, compared to the 2008 total of $275,898,756.

CFC monies are unrestricted, reliable and predictable and more than 93% go to invidual charities designated by the donors. Thousands of local, national and international non-profits are aided by the CFC each year.

There are 224 regional CFCs, and of these 123 showed increases over the past year, while 103 showed a decline. If you would like my report showing the CFC totals for your state, please send me an e-mail at billhuddleston1 at gmail dot com with "CFC States" in the subject line and I'll be glad to send it to you.

Thanks,

Workplace giving remains the only method of non-profit fundraising that is subsidized, low-risk and high leverage.
