The nonprofit world continues to grow both in number of organizations and in its share of the U.S. work force. But according to the Urban Institute's Nonprofit Almanac 2012, fundraising isn't keeping pace. While the nonprofit work force has grown by 2 million, or more than 17 percent, and the number of registered charities has increased by 46.5 percent from 2000 to 2010, giving as a share of national income has actually declined over the same period.
