Volunteers can either make or break a charity fundraising event, depending on how they are managed and what they are asked to do.
Semhar Araia, executive director of the Diaspora African Women's Network, a small international nonprofit in Washington, sought advice from a consultant, Jerryanne Heath, on how to identify the ideal volunteers as she planned an event to celebrate the group's fifth anniversary. They also worked together to figure out how to ensure that volunteers had proper guidance so they would stay motivated and accountable.
In the latest episode of Fundraising Fundamentals, Ms. Heath and Ms. Araia describe their approach and offer advice to other groups as they seek to get the most from their volunteers.
