LinkedIn, a social-networking Web site that is aimed at professionals, often gets lost in the buzz that surrounds sites such as Twitter and Facebook. But LinkedIn is a powerful network. It boasts more than 85-million members and says it is adding a new member every second.

People use LinkedIn and Facebook in different ways. Facebook is considered by many to be the place to check pictures from a friend's trip, for instance, while LinkedIn, more and more, has become the site for thoughtful discourse.

In this month's edition of Social Good, Allison Fine, the host, interviews Amy Sample Ward, community development manager at TechSoup Global, and Estrella Rosenberg, founder and executive director of Big Love Little Hearts in Chicago and author of the blog Adventures in Philanthropy.

Ms. Ward and Ms. Rosenberg discuss how nonprofits are using LinkedIn and offer recommendations about the best LinkedIn groups for nonprofit professionals who want to connect with other people involved in efforts to promote the common good.

Allison Fine, a nonprofit leader and expert on technology and communications, discusses how charities and foundations can more effectively use social-media tools to spread their messages and raise money. Ms. Fine incorporates suggestions and questions from readers into her podcasts and invites you to e-mail her at afine@demos.org. Look for new installments on the first Thursday of every month.

My mate told me that your reporter's pages are superior - like her prom plus size dresses but I believe that the last is not

Wonderful information. Our business, Demeter Design, is in the process of transforming from a c-corporation to a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation.

I have been using Linked In for a couple of years and find that the community is business focused while the facebook crowd is more diverse.
