Poor Economy Erodes Product Donations

Charities that distribute food, medicine, and other supplies to the needy have not been immune to the effects of the bad economy.

Donations to 45 such groups (those with half or more of gifts in the form of products) grew by a median 3 percent in 2008 (compared with a median increase of 6.5 percent for all charities in the Philanthropy 400).
