Many nonprofits and grant makers struggle with how to measure whether they are making a difference setting priorities based on data.
But the Baton Rouge Area Foundation is doing both successfully with its CityStats project, now in its third year.
The project tracks 60 quality-of-life indicators to figure out what projects are working and which projects are failing. The foundation then uses the annual report to help set goals and determine grant-making priorities.
Learn how your organization could undertake a similar effort in this online discussion transcript with the leader of CityStats.
The guest:
Mukul Verma oversees CityStats as the director of communications for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. He is a former reporter and Web editor at the Baton Rouge Business Report and business writer for the daily newspaper in Baton Rouge.
