Text-Message Fund Raising: What Your Group Needs to Know

Tuesday, March 9, at noon U.S. Eastern time

Text-message fund-raising tools helped the American Red Cross raise more than $32-million to provide aid after the Haiti earthquake. And many other disaster-relief groups were able to use text messages to solicit instant, small-scale contributions from motivated donors.

This success has many people in the nonprofit world excited about the possibilities of this fund-raising approach. But the success of the Haiti fund-raising effort is also creating what some fund-raising experts believe are unrealistic expectations.

What lessons can fund raisers for all kinds of causes learn from the Haiti experience? Should small charities attempt to raise money with this tool?

Join us on Tuesday, March 9, at noon Eastern time, as Wendy Harman, social media manager at the American Red Cross, and Geoff Livingston, chief marketing officer at Zoetica in Washington, take your questions about text-message fund raising.

This free, interactive discussion will take place in the window below. A full transcript will also be available.

Thank you for hosting a very balanced and accurate look at the state of mobile donations.

I would only ad that it is only a part of how organizations utilize mobile to further their goals. Mobile is a communications tool with tremendous reach and donations are only one aspect of how the non- profit community benefits from making it part of its communication tool box.

Organizations current use of mobile includes list building, generating donor phone calls, advocacy organizing and communicating with populations that hard to reach to name a few. All of these uses benefit the overall fundraising and other goals goals of non profits.

Like all communication tools, it does not replace other forms of communication but ads to the overall communications mix. And like all other communications tools mobile is most effective when integrated with an organizations other on line and offline form communication and CRM.

Thank you again.
