How can fund raisers avoid making poor choices when they are faced with sticky ethical situations involving bequests and other planned gifts?

Aviva Shiff Boedecker, a planned-giving consultant in San Francisco, says many fund raisers are unaware of their organizations' planned-giving policies and, as a result, they end up getting too close to donors and make decisions that are clouded by conflicts of interest.

In an interview with The Chronicle and Tony Martignetti Nonprofit Radio, Ms. Boedecker offers advice on how to avoid these conflicts, which can often harm their organizations' reputations.
