Even though they are working for the same cause, fund raisers and employees in other parts of the organization often have conflicting goals.

An artistic director might want to promote performances that attract the most critical acclaim, while the group's fund raisers prefer performances that will attract the largest audiences and the most donors.

Program officers at international aid charities cringe at marketing appeals that they think objectify the people they serve or simplify the fight against poverty, while the group's fund raisers say they have proof such appeals work best.

Join us on Tuesday, May 17, at noon U.S. Eastern time to learn how fund raisers and program workers can bridge gaps and stay focused on their shared goal of supporting their group's mission.

The guests:

Ned Breslin is chief executive of Water for People, an international development organization where he previously served as director of international programs, leading the group's programs in Latin America, India, and Malawi. Previously he worked for Lutheran World Relief, the Mvula Trust, and WaterAid.

Lauren J. Hines is development director for the Council for Court Excellence, where she leads the organization's fund-raising strategies. She previously worked for various arts groups in contract and production management, financial reporting, fund raising, board relations, and strategic planning.
