Foursquare and other location-based social networks offer new opportunities for nonprofit groups.

But many people in the nonprofit world are still unsure how to make the most of these networks.

Allison Fine, the host of Social Good, talks with Danielle Brigida of the National Wildlife Federation to learn about Ms. Brigida's experiments with the geographically-based networks and examine ideas for how charities can make use of these emerging tools.

Allison Fine, a nonprofit leader and expert on technology and communications, discusses how charities and foundations can more effectively use social-media tools to spread their messages and raise money. Ms. Fine will incorporate suggestions and questions from readers into her podcasts and invites you to send e-mail messages to her at afine@demos.org. Look for new installments on the first Thursday of every month.

Excellent podcast- a great reminder to think of the angles of any seemingly frivilous trend. Much like the podcast story, I had always seen geographical locators as a sort of self-serving thing until a good friend showed a picture from the zoo she was visiting. It made me want to go to the zoo- which is really ideal. I wonder if the future will show businesses and zoos with signs saying "social sharing moment" at popular spots instead of just the popular "Kodak moment" signs.

Very Interesting - I think geospatial tools are a very powerful way to communicate with a donor - they get to 'see' what is happening and gives them a different experience. Check out www.donor2deed.com
