18% of Children Live in Poverty, Study Finds

Even before the recession started, the child-poverty rate had increased in this decade, affecting 18 percent of American youngsters, according to a new report released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Washington Post reports.

The report shows improvements in the infant-mortality rate and the percentage of children and teenagers who died. The percentage of teenagers who aren't in school also dropped.
