Fired Charity Chief Warns Off Donors
Larry Jones, the ousted president of the antihunger charity Feed the Children, says donors should not give to the organization until lawsuits over his firing and other issues are resolved, The Oklahoman reports.
“Let me ask you this: Do you want to feed the children or feed the lawyers?” Mr. Jones said in an interview with the news organization. “It’s still cloudy where the money goes.” He added: “I’m saying don’t give to Feed the Children until this is cleaned up.”
Mr. Jones, who founded the Oklahoma City charity 30 years ago, was fired by the board of directors November 6 after he acknowledged placing microphones in the offices of organization executives with whom he was locked in a power struggle. He has said he intended only to tape his own conversations. Mr. Jones has sued to get his job back and has also gone to court to block directors from using the organization’s money to pay their legal fees. The board members and other officials of the charity were not quoted in the article.
