Formerly Debt-Ridden Oral Roberts U. Back in Black
Officials at Oral Roberts University say they have paid off the massive debt left over from a financial scandal involving its past president, the son of the evangelical school’s famed founder, reports the Associated Press.
The Tulsa, Okla., college was $55-million in the red after Richard Roberts stepped down in 2007 amid allegations that he had spent university money on travel, home remodeling, and personal expenses. The recovery that led to Wednesday’s announcement was fueled by a $70-million gift from the Oklahoma City billionaire Mart Green and a successful matching-gift campaign.
