In the Arts: Beverly Hills Drops Out of Museum Race; Plus the Honolulu Symphony Wrestles With Bankruptcy

Beverly Hills has pulled out of the bidding to host a planned museum for the philanthropist Eli Broad's contemporary-art collection, says the Los Angeles Times.

The Beverly Hills City Council opted to shift funds set aside for a possible museum site purchase to "other project priorities," according to a city statement. Locations in Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles remain in the running.

In other arts news, a bankruptcy court decision this week opens the door for multiple groups to submit reorganization plans for the Honolulu Symphony, including the ensemble's musicians, the Honolulu Advertiser writes.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Faris rejected the Honolulu Symphony Society's request to extend the period during which it alone could submit a proposal. The musicians' union has criticized an organizational analysis on which the society was to base its plan.
