In the Arts: Whitney Plans Second Museum
The Whitney Museum signed a deal with New York officials last month to buy land for a second site near the entrance to the city’s popular new High Line park, The New York Times reports.
The $18-million contract gives the Whitney up to four years to close on the purchase and five years to start construction on the Renzo Piano-designed satellite museum. The institution started a $680-million fund-raising campaign in the spring, with about two-thirds of the target total earmarked for the new facility.
