Marianne Pearl Drops Case Against Charity in Husband's Murder
Marianne Pearl, the widow of a journalist murdered by terrorists, has dropped her lawsuit against an Islamic charity and a Pakistani bank, giving no explanation for the move, reports the BBC News.
Daniel Pearl, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, was beheaded in 2002 by Islamist terrorists, who released a videotape of the killing. Ms. Pearl had sued the Habib Bank, the al-Rashid Trust, al Qaeda, and others in July. She said that the bank had knowingly conducted transactions for the al-Rashid Trust, a charity that she said was linked to her husband’s death. The defendants that responded to the lawsuit, including the bank, denied the allegations.
“The withdrawal was done for personal reasons that had nothing to do with the merits of the lawsuit,” a spokesperson for Ms. Pearl’s lawyers told the Reuters news agency.
