Myanmar Criticizes Inadequate International Aid

Myanmar’s junta said Thursday that cyclone survivors didn’t need foreign aid but criticized foreign governments for pledging only up to $150-million for relief efforts, reports the Associated Press. The junta said it needed $11-billion to rebuild.

The Myanma Ahlin, a government-run newspaper, said cyclone victims from the worst-hit areas could survive without foreign assistance.

“People from the Irrawaddy delta can survive on their own, even without bars of chocolate donated by the international community,” it said.
