Foundation Workloads

September 12, 2007, 12:01 pm

Grant making is not as easy as it looks, writes the anonymous author of Inside Philanthropy.

The blogger, a former fund raiser who today works at a foundation she does not name, has been unable to update her blog frequently because of her heavy workload, she writes.

“Glamorous. Academic. Pretentious. Intellectual. Well-paid. Easy,” she writes. “That is how the grant-making world looks to many a burnt-out fund raiser who looks to the other side for a better job. The fund raiser just sees the grant maker who gets wined and dined. It looks so easy.”

But looks are deceiving, she adds. “Out of those 5 adjectives, only one really applies. I bet you can guess it.”

What do you think? Do fund raisers often misunderstand the workload of foundation officials? What adjective of the five mentioned in the blog do you think best describes foundations? Share your thoughts by clicking on the comment link below this post.
