- On the blog, Transformational Giving, Eric Foley, chief executive officer of Seoul USA, discusses why outsourcing fund-raising jobs has failed to become a growing trend among nonprofit organizations. He argues that charities see it as unethical and that the act of raising money still requires personal participation and ownership in the cause.
- Jed Emerson, a longtime advocate of a “blended” business-nonprofit approach to solving social problems, and Matthew Bishop and Michael Green, co-authors of Philanthrocapitalism, are developing a Social Competitiveness Index to rank countries “according to the effectiveness of their legal, fiscal, governance, and cultural environment” to spur social innovation.
- On Mashable, Greg Ferenstein writes about the growing market of “do-it yourself crowdsourcing Web sites that has made fund raising easier and more effective.” He profiles three charities that have successfully raised money online.
- Writing on the OnPhilanthropy blog, Pablo Eisenberg, a Chronicle contributor and a senior fellow at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership, calls the White House Office of Social Innovation a “puny” effort that does not tackle the significant problems facing the nonprofit world.
- What makes a “legitimate” nonprofit news organization? Jim Barnett, of the Nieman Journalism Lab, lays out six practices that he says are followed by ProPublica, the Council on Foreign Relations’ Foreign Affairs magazine, and a few other groups.
- On Social Edge, Rod Schwartz, chief executive of ClearlySo, an online hub for socially responsible businesses, is moderating a discussion on whether social enterprises can be “too corporate” and, on the flip side, whether people who start social enterprises too often disdain good business practice.

Events.org has a feature for “do it yourself” fundraising and nonprofits are provided with a webpage to custom design and where donations can come in securely. Basic plans are free but limited and you only pay for the credit card processing fees. http://www.online.donation.events.org/

Yes! I agree with rhartsook. That article was a bit of muddy thinking on the part of Eric Foley. You can outsource certain aspects of your fundraising, like your direct mail, your email blasts, etc without outsourcing your major gifts too.Come on. Binary thinking should just be for computers!Mazarinehttp://wildwomanfundraising.com
