$100-Million in U.S. Grants Awarded to Aid Homeless Veterans

July 20, 2012, 10:39 am

The Department of Veterans Affairs this week announced that 151 local organizations nationwide will share $100-million in funding to help low-income veterans and their families, says the Huffington Post.

The grants to groups in 49 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico are part of a federal effort to eradicate homelessness among returning servicemen and -women by 2015. An estimated 42,000 U.S. veterans are homeless or at risk of becoming so.

The $100-million, announced in December, is significantly more than the $60-million spent last year.
