$20-Million From Health Nonprofit to Support S. Dakota Arena

August 9, 2012, 10:50 am

Nonprofit hospital system Sanford Health has committed $20-million to the University of South Dakota, with the donation primarily benefiting construction of a new sports arena, reports the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Fargo, N.D.-based medical group’s 20-year gift will also support scholarships, faculty, and health services.

The university launched fundraising for a new, 6,000-seat basketball and volleyball arena in June 2011. The Sanford donation, announced Wednesday, was the first gift in the campaign to be made public.

Last week Sanford pledged $10-million for athletics facilities at South Dakota State and joined with two financial firms in a 25-year, $20.75-million naming rights deal for a new events center in Sioux Falls.
