$20-Million-Plus Gift to Build USC Dance School

November 12, 2012, 10:40 am

Los Angeles arts patron Glorya Kaufman has made a major donation to the University of Southern California to endow a new school of dance, says the Los Angeles Times. Ms. Kaufman would not reveal the amount of the gift but said it far exceeds the $20-million she gave the Music Center in Los Angeles three years ago to bring in major dance companies.

The Glorya Kaufman School of Dance will be USC’s first new endowment-funded school since 1973. Known in arts circles as “the dancing philanthropist,” Ms. Kaufman has also made major gifts benefiting the UCLA dance building and the Alvin Ailey’s American Dance Theater.
