A wealthy Calgary businessman who won a $37.6-million lottery jackpot is donating the entire haul to charity, the CBC reports.
Tom Crist was notified of the Western Canada Lottery prize in May but waited several months to go public about his winnings and his decision to give the money away in memory of his wife, who died of cancer two years ago. The jackpot will go into a family trust and be disbursed to charities he and his children select.
Mr. Crist retired in September as CEO of an electrical-products company, which was sold late last year. “I did very well for myself. I’ve done enough that I can look after myself, for my kids, so they can get looked after into the future. I don’t really need that money,” he said.Return to Top
