The Occupy Wall Street movement has raised some $435,000 in donations since its launch last month and is collecting thousands more a day, writes the Associated Press.
Most of the funds have come through online credit-card donations, but the anti-corporate protest is also collecting about $8,000 a day in lockboxes in its hub, New York’s Zuccotti Park, according to Darrell Prince, a member of a “finance working group” of activists with business experience that arose to handle money issues for the movement.
About $1,500 a day goes to feed protesters in the park, and about $20,000 has been spent on cameras and computer equipment to stream video of the demonstrations online. Activists say funds could also be used to prepare for winter by seeking an indoor encampment or buying frost-proof clothing for activists.
Late last month, Occupy Wall Street officially aligned with the Alliance for Global Justice, a Washington-based advocacy group that will be responsible for processing donations and handling tax reporting.
