A progressive organization is calling for billionaire industrialist David Koch’s ouster from the board of Boston public television station WGBH, contending his support for conservative causes and funding of efforts to refute climate change make him unsuitable for a seat, writes Current.org, a news site that reports on public media.
The effort by California-based Forecast the Facts has taken on new visibility in recent weeks as protestors projected anti-Koch electronic messages on prominent Boston buildings, including Fenway Park, the Massachusetts State House, and WGBH’s headquarters. The campaign, launched last fall, is supported by other liberal groups and advocates for political action on climate change.
Mr. Koch has served on WGBH’s board since 1997 and has donated $18.6-million to the station, more than half of it for the WGBH-produced science program “Nova.” The broadcaster and Koch Industries say there are no plans for Mr. Koch to leave or be removed from the board.
“Just as our viewers and listeners reflect a full spectrum of pursuits and viewpoints, so do our board members,” said Jeanne Hopkins, a WGBH spokeswoman.Return to Top
