A second charity that supports military special-operations personnel has said it will not take donations derived from a book by a Navy SEAL veteran who wrote about his participation in the mission that killed Osama bin Laden, writes The Atlantic Wire.
The Tip of the Spear Foundation was one of three charities that the author, Matt Bissonnette, named as potential beneficiaries of the book, No Easy Day. Patt Dossett, the group’s director, told The Atlantic magazine’s news blog that it would refuse any gifts from Mr. Bissonette.
Tip of the Spear’s work on behalf of SEAL veterans their families “is based upon a level of trust placed in us,” Mr. Dossett said. “The foundation takes very seriously the protection of the men and the mission.”
The Navy SEAL Foundation, another charity named by Mr. Bissonnette, said last week that it would not take his donations. The third designated group, All in All the Time Foundation, says it has not yet decided whether to accept money from sales of the book, in which the Pentagon contends that the author leaked classified information about the bin Laden raid.
