A charity co-founded by Lance Armstrong to help high-profile athletes channel their philanthropy has severed ties with the former cycling champion following his public confession of doping, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Armstrong launched Athletes for Hope in April 2007 with retired tennis star Andre Agassi and soccer player Mia Hamm. The Bethesda, Md.-based nonprofit organization encourages athletes to link up with existing charities rather than establish their own foundations.

Athletes for Hope CEO Ivan Blumberg said the charity and Mr. Armstrong reached a “mutual” decision to part ways after the cyclist admitted in an interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year month that he used banned substances in winning his seven Tour de France titles.
