A family of Oklahoma retail magnates has chosen Washington, D.C., as the site for a planned museum on the history, contents, and influence of the Bible, Religion News Service reports.

Cary Summers, chief operating officer of a nonprofit group that manages the billionaire family’s collection of Bible-related artifacts, said the Greens opted for Washington over New York and Dallas based on research indicating greater public willingness to travel to the nation’s capital for such a museum.

Parts of the collection of more than 40,000 items, including an 80-percent scale replica of the room in Westminster Abbey where the King James Bible was written, have been displayed at the Vatican and in Atlanta and Oklahoma City. Planners hope to confirm a Washington site for the as-yet-unnamed museum later this summer.
