The chief executive of media and financial-information firm Bloomberg L.P., whose father and uncle died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is putting together a $25-million package of donations for a project to develop treatments for the degenerative illness, reports The New York Times.

Daniel L. Doctoroff is working with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, founder of the eponymous media company, and David Rubinstein, co-founder of private-equity investor the Carlyle Group, on the package of financial support for Target ALS, a consortium of 18 laboratories working to locate biological triggers for the condition, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
