Boy Scouts Considers Change to Policy on Gays

June 7, 2012, 10:42 am

The Boy Scouts of America is reconsidering its ban on allowing gays and lesbians as leaders and members, says ABC News.

The move came after 275,000 signed a petition, which was started on Change.org and presented at the Scouts annual meeting by Zach Wahls, a 20-year-old Iowa Eagle Scout who made a video last year supporting his two lesbian mothers.

Officials say they have no immediate plans to change the policy but are weighing whether to allow local groups to decide for themselves whether to admit gays starting in 2013.

Mr. Wahls is optimistic that the group will make the change but says he will support the Scouts regardless.

“Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout,” he said. “I am unwilling to quit because of a single policy. They do so many things right.”
