Bronx Planned Parenthood Clinic Becomes Latest Live Action Target

February 9, 2011, 10:06 am

The anti-abortion group Live Action on Tuesday released the latest videotape in its sting operation against Planned Parenthood, showing people posing as a pimp and a prostitute getting information from a Bronx clinic on abortion and health-care options for under-age sex workers, The New York Times and the New York Daily News write.

Live Action had previously released undercover videos shot at Planned Parenthood facilities in New Jersey and Virginia amid a broader campaign by abortion opponents to persuade Congress to cut off federal funds for the national reproductive-health organization.

Planned Parenthood said staff members at the Bronx clinic had acted appropriately, notifying managers and the F.B.I. of the encounter after the actors departed. The organization said it is stepping up training for staff members on recognizing potential danger to minors.

In New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a bill to finance Planned Parenthood clinics, citing fiscal concerns, the Christian news site LifeSiteNews says.

The bill would have expanded the state’s Medicare program to include family planning clinics, an attempt to reverse Gov. Christie’s move last July to eliminate $7.5-million in state funding for such facilities. Expanding Medicaid “does not make sense” given New Jersey’s $1.1-billion budget gap, the governor said.
