The William J. Clinton Foundation is embarking on an ambitious program to close disparities in health care based on income, race, and education level, says Reuters. Bill Clinton announced the Clinton Health Matters Initiative last week, targeting gaps in treatment and the incidence of preventable illnesses between well-to-do and poor communities.

The former president has enlisted Verizon, General Electric, and Tenet Healthcare Corp. as corporate partners in the project. The firms will expand wellness programs for their employees and explore technological solutions to improve care in low-income areas.

Mr. Clinton is also stepping up his role in the fight against breast cancer, signing on as honorary chairman of the National Breast Cancer Coalition campaign to stamp out the disease by 2020, writes The Daily Beast.
