Although requests from charities for assistance are on the rise, charitable giving by corporations such as Bank of America, General Electric, and Wells Fargo will most likely be flat in 2009 as those companies suffer the effects of the banking crisis or see lower profits, reports Reuters.

Even so, nonprofit groups are stepping up requests for aid. A spokesman for Wells Fargo said the company had gotten 20 percent more requests for assistance from charities compared with this time last year.
