The southern California philanthropists Stewart and Lynda Resnick have pledged $20-million toward a new California Institute of Technology center to develop sustainable energy technologies, the Los Angeles Business Journal reports.

The Resnick Sustainability Institute will work on “innovative science and engineering developments” that break new ground in renewable energy, according to a university statement.

Jean-Lou Chameau, the university’s president, announced the grant at the institution’s commencement last week. The Gordon and Betty Moore Matching Program contributed another $10-million to the $90-million project.
