Court Restricts Home-Buying-Assistance Group

Partners in Charity, a nonprofit downpayment-assistance organization in West Dundee, Ill., has been barred by a federal court in Chicago from telling home buyers to whom it makes “gifts” of up to 10 percent of a home loan that they can take a charitable tax deduction when selling the home, reports the Chicago Tribune.

A lawyer for the group said Partners in Charity never officially claimed its clients could take such tax deductions.
