The Duke Endowment has donated $45-million to Davidson College to support an ambitious construction and renovation effort at the North Carolina campus, writes the Charlotte Business Journal.
The gift is the largest in the history of the liberal arts college. It will go toward a 10-year plan, set to start in 2013, involving construction, remodeling, or expansion of six buildings to create an “academic neighborhood” designed to foster collaboration among school communities with outside companies and organizations.
“Davidson graduates lead and serve in an increasingly interconnected, rapidly changing world,” college President Carol Quillen said. “To stay ahead of these changes, we need to shift how we work, both physically and intellectually.”
Davidson is among four educational institutions to receive funds annually from the Duke Endowment, a private foundation focused on higher education, health care, rural churches, and programs for children.
