With the number of major gifts dwindling, universities and other nonprofit organizations are likely to be more willing to negotiate terms over naming buildings and other facilities after big givers, Bloomberg reports.

Charitable groups generally have set terms for offering such recognition, but experts say they might become more flexible amid the economic downturn. The number of individual gifts topping $1-million was down 50 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy.
