Ex-Children’s Charity Official Admits to Stealing $780,000 From Calif. Group

November 5, 2009, 1:03 pm

The former chief financial officer at an Orange County, Calif., children’s charity pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing more than $780,000 from the organization, says the Los Angeles Times.

Tracy Lynn Salcido was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation, which supports a shelter for neglected and abused kids, as well as legal and accounting fees.

Prosecutors said Ms. Salcido forged more than 200 checks from Orangewood accounts between 1999 and 2005, hid the theft by underreporting donations and overstating expenses, and used the money on travel, shopping, cars, and a pool and spa at her home.
