A Pennsylvania businessman who served on the board of ex-Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky’s youth charity is suing the organization for return of $250,000 he gave it for a now-scrapped development project, according to The Patriot-News of Harrisburg.
In court papers filed Tuesday Lance Shaner said he sought the refund in November following Mr. Sandusky’s arrest on molestation charges and the state’s withdrawal of a $3-million grant for the Second Mile’s planned recreation center.
Mr. Shaner said he was initially told by Second Mile CEO David Woodle that the charity would honor the request after obtaining state and judicial approvals but he has had no word on the matter since.
The charity, which prosecutors contend Mr. Sandusky used to meet alleged abuse victims, said earlier this month that it was selling the 60-acre property where it had planned to construct the educational and recreational complex.
A Second Mile spokesman said the organization “will review the lawsuit and respond appropriately when we have done so.”
