Chris Hughes, a co-founder of Facebook, has announced that Jumo, his new social network designed to gather like-minded people and groups around favorite causes, will go public at the end of November, The Washington Post reports.
Jumo—named for a Yoruban word meaning “together in concert”—has signed up 60,000 members in advance of its formal unveiling.
Mr. Hughes helped develop Facebook with his then-Harvard roommate Mark Zuckerberg and ran the social-media operation of President Obama’s 2008 campaign. He said Jumo is “not about giving” but rather seeks to link groups or individuals who might be working on a particular issue but have “no system to connect.”
The network will help people collate information about favorite causes and charities from across several online platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and e-mail, and facilitate communication and support among people who share that interest.

LeapingStone http://www.leapingstone.org is a nonprofit that is eagerly awaiting the launch of Jumo. We love this idea. Anything that can bring like-minded groups and individuals together is a positive step in the right direction.
