Florida Charities Start Web Site to Seek Public Support

August 24, 2009, 1:13 pm

Nonprofit groups in Jacksonville, Fla., have started an online survey site to gauge public opinion on their role in community life, reports The Florida Times-Union.

Visitors to I Get It Jax can fill out a short questionnaire on the value of Jacksonville social-service and cultural organizations. The site, operated by the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida, went live two weeks ago, when the City Council voted to cut grants to social-service groups by $46,000, or about 2 percent.

Backers of the online effort said its goal is to send a message about the value of their work to local legislators, who rejected a property-tax increase proposed by the city’s mayor and backed by a coalition of local nonprofit groups.
