Former Abortion-Rights Leader Sued by New York State

July 2, 2012, 10:13 am

New York’s attorney general has sued the former president of a prominent abortion-rights organization, alleging she channeled $250,000 of the charity’s money to personal use, The Wall Street Journal writes.

The suit filed Friday by Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman’s office accuses Kelli Conlin, who led Naral Pro-Choice New York for nearly 20 years before leaving office in January 2011, of using its funds on designer clothes and shoes, transport for her children to and from their Manhattan school, and a house rental in the Hamptons.

Ms. Conlin pleaded guilty in June 2011 to falsifying business records. She was ordered to pay $75,000 in restitution to the group but did not receive jail time.
