A former Planned Parenthood affiliate is under investigation by the Internal Revenue Service for questions about its finances, according to The New York Times.
The criminal division of the IRS is looking into the books of Golden Gate Community Health, in San Francisco, after a former employee of the organization raised concerns about the financial relationship between the health provider and its political arm.
The organization was formerly Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, but the national headquarters removed the local affiliate from the network due to financial and administrative troubles.
Therese Wilson, interim chief executive of Golden Gate Community Health, said that the organization hired a forensic accounting firm to look for financial misdoings. She said that the firm found no evidence but did say it had discovered “inaccurate information.”
The IRS, as is its policy in investigations, has not commented on the inquiry.
