The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation sold almost all of its shares in biotechnology, health-care, and pharmaceutical companies in the quarter that ended June 30, according to a regulatory filing, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The foundation sold 2.5 million shares in Johnson & Johnson, 14.9 million shares in Schering-Plough Corp., almost 1 million shares in Eli Lilly & Co., 8.1 million shares in Merck & Co., and 3.7 million shares in Wyeth. It no longer has any shares in these companies.
There is anxiety among drug companies and health-care insurance firms about the Obama administration’s plans to overhaul health care.
Michael Larson, the manager of the Gates foundation’s investments, did not comment in the article.
