Giving by India’s wealthy continues to rise, with the country’s millionaires donating 3.1 percent of their income last year compared with 2.3 percent in 2010, New Delhi broadcaster NDTV reports.
Indians with more than $1-million of assets to invest donated between $5.1-billion and $6.8-billion last year, according to the India Philanthropy Report 2012 by consulting firm Bain & Co.
More than 70 percent of donors for the study were philanthropic novices who have started giving within the last three years, and more than a third are 30 years old or younger, underscoring the growth potential in Indian philanthropy, Bain found.
